I love the idea of the world inside this book having a form in type. The photographs are material to be cut against language — words stretch, break, collide with architecture, or seem to have been pulled directly from the visual field.

There is a deliberately liminal quality to the book’s attention. It keeps returning to the almost-place: service lanes, fences, blank walls, industrial lots, things half-seen from a moving car or train. Quan lets them remain provisional, estranged and absurd. The result is a small artist’s book about perception, non-place and the way language colonises what we see, while images quietly resist being reduced to explanation.

Mindless Books, Springvale, 2025. First edition. Hardcover artist’s book; words, photographs and graphics by Superimposition (Quan), produced with Visual Soma / Non-Duality Art Collective.
