Very special. Field Notes is a collaboration between poets Autumn Richardson and Richard Skelton built from sustained attention to specific landscapes.

Written between 2009 and 2011 across England, Scotland and Ireland, its poems emerge from places including the Burren, Tentsmuir, Ulpha Fell and the West Pennine Moors. Richardson and Skelton describe the project as an attempt to preserve an aspect of a place within a single poem or small constellation of poems; becoming a type of textual sedimentation. 

Like the land, lines break apart, drift across the page and accumulate in irregular fields; language becomes something walked through rather than simply read left to right. Sections including “Typography of the Shore,” “Skin & Heather,” “Indwelling,” “Into the Bare Moorland” and “The Flowering Rock” move between poetry, place-writing and visual composition. It belongs to that interesting borderland where ecopoetics, artists’ publishing and psychogeography begin leaking into one another, without quite becoming any of them.
