'Survival Arts' by Ian Weddes
Couldn't load pickup availability
A novel about how people improvise their way through late-century modernity.
Set across three days with shifting perspectives, Survival Arts follows characters navigating art, politics, intimacy, and the slow creep of global capital into private life. Cars, advertising, television, war imagery, personal mythologies: Wedde splices them together into a collage of consciousness.
It feels aware of media saturation before we had a language for it. Not a 'remember forever' read, but defintiely a sharp example of late-80s Antipodean fiction thinking beyond the national frame.
Cover is pure period — bright, graphic, slightly abrasive in the best way.
