When Otsuki is summoned by a local man named Sensei, he finds himself suddenly drawn into a commission involving money, filming, performance and a young woman named Tomoe.

As Otsuki moves deeper into Sensei’s orbit, ordinary arrangements start to feel staged, watched, and contaminated. The novel keeps shifting its terms as it winds. We move, and patronage becomes surveillance, intimacy becomes performance, and art becomes a way of trapping people inside versions of themselves.
