In this collection, Irish poet Ellen Dillon approaches the natural world through birdsong, fishing, lakes, weather, animal life; all places where human language encounters something it cannot entirely possess or explain, and where looking closely becomes a way of questioning the limits of what can be known.

Dillon's writing moves between ecological observation, literary reference, memory and the material qualities of language itself. The poems make room for interruption, uncertainty and unexpected shifts in perspective, drawing connections between species, histories and environments without reducing them to a single argument. There is an interest in listening as both a poetic practice and a form of attention to lives unfolding beyond the human.

Published by Broken Sleep Books in 2026, the collection brings together experimental lyricism and ecological curiosity, concerned as much with how we perceive the world as with what we find there.
