'Doctor Zhivago' by Boris Pasternak

Set against the upheaval of the Russian Revolution and its aftermath, Doctor Zhivago follows Yuri Zhivago — physician, poet, reluctant witness — as history tears through private life.
Yuri drifts through Moscow, the front lines, the frozen countryside, caught between political forces and intimate loyalties. At the centre is his love for Lara, a romance that is fed by exile, scarcity, and an erosion of certainty.
Pasternak writes the Revolution as haunting and surreal as it was. Hunger, displacement, suspicion, sudden beauty. The landscape matters as much as the plot — snowfields, abandoned estates, railway journeys — all carrying the weight of a world being remade.
Copy is a bit worn, but that adds to that Cold War feel. Doesn't it?
