In a near future where Japan has vanished — possibly submerged — Hiruko wanders Europe looking for someone who still speaks her mother tongue.

She invents a new language as she goes, stitching together fragments of Danish, German, and invented grammar. Along the way she gathers a small, drifting group of linguistic outsiders: migrants, translators, misfits. Together they search for belonging in a continent uneasy with borders and memory.
