A cult novel of queer life in 1930s New York, written in collaboration by Charles Henri-Ford and Parker Tyler. The Young and the Evil follows a loose circle of artists, hustlers, writers, and drifters moving through bars, apartments, and late-night conversations. Plot is secondary to atmosphere: desire, ambition, cruelty, boredom, and self-invention collide in short scenes and sharp dialogue.

First published in Paris after being deemed unpublishable in the United States, the book is frank, caustic, and deliberately unserious about respectability.
