'A Universe of Clowns' by Serge Liberman

A Universe of Clowns is a short story collection that works through small, often wryly destabilising encounters with absurdity, aging, displacement, and social misfit figures.
The “clown” functions less as spectacle than as a quiet emblem of human awkwardness — people slightly out of register with the worlds they move through.
There’s a distinctly European sensibility at work, filtered through an Australian context: reflective, ironic, and uninterested in dramatic payoff. They're a nice look at Aus lit as it was in the late 80's and 90's and overall a subtle examination of dignity, isolation, and the limits of sense-making in everyday life.
