Description of 'Your Man in This Column' by Hrant Dink

These columns were written by a man who knew, very clearly, that writing them might get him killed—and kept writing anyway.

Hrant Dink was an Armenian-Turkish journalist, editor of Agos, and one of the few public figures in Turkey willing to speak plainly about the Armenian Genocide, minority life, and the moral cost of nationalist denial. In these columns, he writes about history, identity, fear, reconciliation, and everyday politics with a voice that is unusually calm for the risks involved.

What makes this book unsettling is how ordinary the writing often is. Dink talks about neighbours, newspapers, misunderstandings, and small civic gestures, even as he is being prosecuted, threatened, and surveilled. Dialogue here isn’t naïve; it’s a form of exposure. His belief that people must keep speaking to one another is key.

Collected and published posthumously, Your Man in This Column shows what dissent looks like when it’s sustained, public, and deeply human—and what it costs.
