Darkfall is a fragmented memoir of girlhood in a Western Australian country town.

Told in short, lyric vignettes, it follows a child who moves through bushland, backyards, pools and granite outcrops while an unnamed threat hums beneath everything.

The darkness here is not metaphor so much as atmosphere; there is no single incident at the centre of the book. Instead, Perry traces the cumulative weight of being watched, touched, silenced, implicated. The natural world offers moments of refuge, just as the human world intrudes, repeatedly.
