Description of 'Glory' by Vladmir Nabokov

Glory is Nabokov before the fireworks went fully off.

Written in the early 1930s, it follows Martin Edelweiss, an émigré drifting through Europe with a romantic, vaguely doomed hunger for meaning. There’s very little plot in the conventional sense; instead you get memory, obsession, exile, all the Nabokov fetishes.

It’s tender, strange, and inward-looking — a novel about courage that never announces itself as such.

For readers who like Nabokov when he’s reflective rather than performative. Definitely if you enjoyed Pale Fire.

First English edition in fab condition.
