The Tribe follows three generations of a Lebanese Muslim family who arrived in Australia just before the Lebanese civil war.

Narrated by Bani, a child growing up within what is known simply as “The Tribe,” the novel centres on the House of Adam — its loyalties, hierarchies, silences, and everyday rituals. Ahmad writes from inside the community, attentive to faith, masculinity, migration, and the friction between collective identity and individual desire.

Direct and restrained, the novel avoids spectacle. It focuses instead on family structure, memory, and the shaping force of belonging in suburban Australia.
