'Fever Dream' by Samantha Schweblin

Schweblin’s novel opens with a familiar absence—a missing child—and as a mother searches and a father trys to account for what’s happened, the book fractures into multiple versions of events, rumours, and possibilities, it never fully finds a single truth.
Rather than functioning as a conventional thriller, Fever Dream (published in some editions as Distancia de rescate) works through tension and distortion, using gaps, repetition, and misdirection to keep the reader off-balance.
Schweblin, one of the most prominent contemporary Argentine writers, is known for this kind of compressed, unsettling fiction—where the pressure comes less from plot than from what can’t quite be explained or pinned down.
