Published to accompany an exhibition held at the Galerie de Nesle in Paris from 1–30 June 1990, this beautifully illustrated catalogue presents the work of Mexican painter, cartoonist and illustrator Abel Quezada (1920–1991).

He was best known for his distinctive contributions to Mexican visual culture, developing over time an unmistakable pictorial language, combining the wit of caricature with the colour, composition and storytelling of modern painting.

His paintings inhabit a world of strange proportions, theatrical interiors, melancholy figures and absurd encounters. Lovers skate across frozen lakes, solitary figures occupy enormous rooms, and everyday scenes acquire something of the atmosphere of a dream. The catalogue includes a biographical introduction, an essay by Gabriel García Márquez titled Le paradis d'Abel (Abel's Paradise), and a generous selection of full-colour reproductions. Particularly lovely for its intersection of Latin American art, illustration, humour and the surreal.

Galerie de Nesle, Paris, 1990. French-language exhibition catalogue. Large-format illustrated paperback. Good vintage condition, with light surface wear, rubbing and minor creasing to the covers and edges. Interior illustrations appear clean and vibrant.
