'Collected Plays Volume I' by Patrick White
Couldn't load pickup availability
This first volume of White's plays contains: The Ham Funeral, The Season at Sarsaparilla, A Cheery Soul and Night on Bald Mountain.
Written between the 1940s and 1960s, these plays helped challenge the conventions of Australian theatre, introducing a distinctive mixture of grotesque comedy, poetic language, psychological realism and the absurd. White's characters are frequently incapable of understanding one another, even as they remain trapped in intimate proximity. The result is a theatre of uncomfortable recognition, where domestic routines acquire an almost mythological intensity and the distinction between ordinary eccentricity and genuine despair becomes increasingly uncertain.
