Description of 'Dialogue No. 8: Audience' edited by Brett Jones

Published by Melbourne artist-run initiative West Space in 1998, this issue of Dialogue takes the idea of the audience, and pitches it as a problem.

Across essays and short interventions by Nicky Klempner, Rod McLeish, Bronwyn Johnson, Jason Smith, Sandra Bridie, Annette Douglass, Brett Jones, Tony Ellwood, Scott McQuire and Robert Gardiner, the issue looks at audience development, community arts, institutional access, public education, regional practice and the overall accessibility of art.

It's gorgeous to have this really well kept, late-1990s document of Australian artist-run culture, when questions of participation, outreach and cultural democracy were being argued through, to compare to how we argue about them now. The design itself is wonderfully period-specific too. Love.

West Space Inc., Footscray, Victoria, April 1998. Dialogue No. 8. Edition of 500. Paperback / stapled periodical. Light shelf and handling wear; internally clean and well preserved. Very good condition.
