'Dialogue Vol. 2, No. 2: Working in Collaboration' edited by Brett Jones and Gregory Pryor

Published by West Space in June 1996, this issue of Dialogue grows out of Working in Collaboration, a four-week exhibition project at the Melbourne artist-run space.
The project formed eight groups that then produced successive installations, often using and reworking materials left behind by those before them. Contributors include Brett Jones, Kevin Murray, Gregory Pryor, Cathrine Pauline and Georgia Ensor, David Pryor, Richard Holt, Annette Douglass, Josie Dujmovic, Fiona Harrison, Simone Slee, Roisin O’Dwyer, Sarah Stubbs, Trudy Burney, Fiona Sinclair, Louise Weaver and Tim Cracker.
The essays move between reflection, criticism, documentation and artist testimony, with recurring attention to work, labour and group process; Kevin Murray’s essay alone pulls Simone Weil, Hannah Arendt, Victor Turner and Kevin Kelly into the pit. A very good piece of Melbourne artist-run history, and a really inspiring, concrete record of collaboration before “collaborative practice” was kind of commercialised.
