A gloriously mid-90s lesbian romance from Naiad Press, following Cassie Jensen, a young woman from rural Australia whose life is already being squeezed by drought, family pressures and money trouble when she encounters the considerably more worldly Blair.

Two different kinds of adulthood smash together, and the result is a romance built around class, sexuality, self-recognition and whether or not escaping any of that solves it. Fulton was part of the Naiad ecosystem that helped build lesbian popular fiction into a proper publishing category rather than something readers had to excavate from the margins. 

There is something especially good about these 1990s Naiad books as objects now: emphatic covers, unapologetic genre machinery, and lesbian lives treated as sufficiently ordinary to support romance, melodrama, work, family and bad decisions rather than having to justify their own existence. Greener Than Grass sits squarely in that lineage, and the Australian setting gives it a slightly unusual texture within the predominantly American lesbian-romance publishing world of the period.
