Drawn from Anaïs Nin’s unexpurgated diaries of 1931–32, Henry and June records the year in Paris in which her marriage, sexuality and sense of self were all thrown into disorder by Henry Miller and his wife, June. 

There's a lot of literary mythology around Nin and Miller, but the diaries are really about how desire becomes an issue of identity. She is fascinated by the selves produced in relation to other people — wife, lover, artist, observer, object of desire — and by the distance between experience and the story one tells oneself about it. The erotic material matters, obviously, but the deeper subject is self-invention: intimacy as both revelation and fabrication.
