'How to Make a Basket' by Jazz Money
Couldn't load pickup availability
Writing in English and Wiradjuri, Jazz Money weaves words through Country, ancestry, queer and Blak intimacy, ecological destruction, colonial violence and the political struggle.
The basket becomes both method and form, woven from fragments that refuse the colonial fantasy that history is finished. Personal feeling and collective history remain tightly bound here; love is not an escape from politics, but one means of surviving and answering it. Winner of the 2020 David Unaipon Award, the collection shifts between protest, satire, lyric tenderness and visual experimentation. Its pages are not always arranged politely: words scatter, recur and gather into constellations, making space itself part of the poem.
