Edited and introduced by Maxim Jakubowski, the collection includes work by Robert Silverberg, William Horwood, Joy Chant, J. G. Ballard, Christopher Evans, Ian Watson, John Grant, Steve Rasnic Tem, Angela Carter and Brian W. Aldiss.

Dive into the metamorphosis, invented worlds, alien encounters, ritual, speculative myth and darker fabulist writing of it all, there ain't no straightforward sword-and-sorcery. Ballard and Carter alone pull the book into the portal, while writers like Silverberg and Aldiss bring the speculative backbone. A good little snapshot of a period when “modern fantasy” was very porous and explorative.
