'Little Joe No. 3: A Magazine About Queers and Cinema, Mostly' edited by Sam Ashby
Couldn't load pickup availability
The third issue of Little Joe, the cult independent journal devoted to queer cinema, sexuality and film history.
Little Joe digs through underground cinema, exploitation, experimental work, forgotten filmmakers and the strange side-roads of mainstream film culture, building an alternative cinematic archive from things that tend to fall out of the official story.
Issue 3 centres on filmmaker George Kuchar, with an interview by critic and curator Ed Halter, alongside conversations with Céline Sciamma, Andrew Haigh, Marlene McCarty and David DeCoteau. Elsewhere are pieces on Derek Jarman’s designs for Ken Russell’s The Devils, Andy Milligan, Gregg Bordowitz, vanished Times Square cinemas and Terence Davies’ personal video library. It also includes a specially illustrated supplement by Mike Mills. Designed in a compact, two-colour format somewhere between film journal, queer zine and pulp paperback, this is a particularly good early issue of a publication that has since become genuinely difficult to find. The original print run was limited and is now sold out.
Little Joe Magazine, London, 2011/12. Issue No. 3. First edition. Paperback, 128 pages, illustrated throughout. Includes Mike Mills supplement. Very light shelf wear to covers; internally clean and bright, binding firm. Near fine condition.
