Written in collaboration with OpenAI's GPT-3, Pharmako-AI is an experiment in machine-assisted writing, exploring how it can behave as an interlocutor capable of disturbing the boundaries of authorship, consciousness and the self.

Moving between philosophy, poetry, speculative fiction and personal reflection, K Allado-McDowell develops a form of writing in which human and machine-generated thought become increasingly difficult to disentangle. 

Across sections concerned with hyperspatial art, plant intelligence, language, post-cyberpunk, generative poetics and AI ethics, the book considers consciousness as something distributed across bodies, environments, technologies and systems of relation. Its treatment of language as a medium that does not merely describe reality but participates in its construction, accompanies the suggestion that encountering nonhuman forms of intelligence might require dismantling some of our most familiar assumptions about identity and perception. Experimental, occasionally esoteric and deliberately porous.
