Bringing together thirty-nine Muslim-Australian poets, Ritual gathers work across radically different relationships to faith, migration, family, race, place, violence, language and belonging.

“Muslim-Australian” isn't a coherent identity to be explained by way of poetry, instead the anthology is more about what happens during the fracture. There is the devotional alongside secular, intimate alongside political, inherited language beside contemporary vernacular, and the private rituals of family or prayer against the very public machinery of Islamophobia and representation. The poems remain individual voices first, moving through grief, humour, anger, desire, memory, colonialism, Palestine, family and ordinary life.

Edited by poets Sara M. Saleh and Zainab Syed with Manal Younus, the collection includes writers such as Omar Musa, Sara Mansour, Lamisse Hamouda, Rashida Murphy, Mohammad Awad and Adrian Mouhajer, with a foreword by Eugenia Flynn.
