Description of 'Sand' by John Kinsella & Robert Drewe

Sand is a collaboration between two of Western Australia's most distinctive literary voices, bringing together Robert Drewe's autobiographical essays with John Kinsella's poetry in a shared meditation on beaches, rivers, coastline and memory.

Their material records childhood, settlement, violence, recreation and environmental change all at once. The result is a book where memoir and poetry continually echo one another, each expanding the other's understanding of place.

Drewe writes with his characteristic warmth and precision about growing up along the Western Australian coast, tracing how beaches become classrooms, playgrounds and sites of identity. Kinsella responds with poems that are less nostalgic than elemental, attentive to ecology, mortality and the uneasy relationship between human life and the natural world. Together, they produce a conversation between memory and landscape that feels distinctly Australian without ever collapsing into national mythology.

First edition, first printing. Published by Fremantle Press, Western Australia, 2010. Very good condition. Paperback with only light shelf wear to the wraps and minimal handling marks. Binding remains firm and square, with clean, bright pages throughout.
