A richly illustrated collection of Susan Seddon Boulet’s paintings centred on shamanism, animal spirits, metamorphosis and the porous boundary between human and non-human forms.

The book is deliberately image-led, with full-page colour reproductions doing most of the work; Anaïs Nin contributes the foreword, while Michael Babcock provides accompanying commentary Boulet draws through masked and hybrid bodies, animals emerging through human figures, ceremonial forms, dream states and archetypal presences. The paintings draw from a wide range of mythic and spiritual traditions while retaining Boulet’s immediately recognisable, softly layered visual language.

Amazing example of late twentieth-century visionary art publishing, sitting somewhere between art monograph, mythology and spiritual iconography. First published by Pomegranate Artbooks in 1989, this softcover edition runs to 118 pages.
