A spare, elemental poetry collection from Yankunytjatjara/Kokatha poet Ali Cobby Eckermann, moving through Country, grief, kinship, memory, survival and the living presence of the earth itself. 

The poems are often pared right back on the page, but they hold a lot of pressure: breath, absence, birdcall, heat, water, ancestry, loss, return. Eckermann’s work has that rare ability to feel both plain-spoken and ceremonial. These are poems of listening more than declaration — attentive to weather, sound, shadow, flora, fauna, and the ways trauma and belonging reverberate through land and body. A strong one for readers of contemporary Australian poetry, First Nations writing, ecological lyric, and poets who use silence and space as part of the poem rather than decoration.
