'The Ghost of Suzuko' by Vincent Brault
Couldn't load pickup availability
A Montreal writer returns to Tokyo after the death of Suzuko, his former lover: a performance artist whose absence has become more vivid, more invasive, and less negotiable than her presence ever was.
Moving through galleries, bars, streets, apartments, the Sumida River and the after-image of a relationship he cannot quite release, Vincent finds himself caught between mourning, desire, memory and the possibility that Suzuko has not entirely left the room.
Originally published in French as Le fantôme de Suzuko, this English translation sits in that slightly fevered zone between literary ghost story, urban wandering, grief novel and contemporary art-world uncanny. Tokyo, mourning, performance art, haunting, ambiguous supernatural atmosphere, and that specific small-press translated-fiction strangeness that makes a book feel like it washed up from a better, odder timeline.
Advance reading copy of the QC Fiction English translation, paperback, published 2022. Very good condition overall, with only light handling wear.
