Founded in 2005 as an independent, artist-led publication, Turps Banana approaches painting from the perspective of those who make it.

This eighth issue, published in Spring 2010, brings together interviews, essays and reproductions concerned with the physical, intellectual and political possibilities of painting. Among its contributions are Marcus Harvey's interview with British abstract painter Basil Beattie, Steve DiBenedetto's conversation with Robert Bordo, and Declan McMullan's examination of the political murals of Northern Ireland, where painting operates as public memory, territorial declaration and ideological expression. E

lsewhere, discussions of abstraction, materiality, failure and artistic process consider the ways paintings develop through accident, revision and sustained attention. Also featuring writing on Simon Callery and Robert Welch, alongside a contribution from Damien Hirst.

Generously illustrated throughout, the magazine is a celebration of the intellectual life of painting, allowing disagreement, uncertainty and the peculiarities of individual artistic practice to remain visible.
