Produced alongside the ifa-Galerie Berlin research and exhibition project Untie to Tie – On Colonial Legacies and Contemporary Societies, this substantial bilingual German-English anthology looks at the persistence of colonial structures inside education.

Its contributors move across art, education and social research to ask how colonial ways of organising knowledge continue to determine what becomes visible, authoritative or teachable. Essays and visual projects address Miriam Makeba and Pan-Africanism, language in Senegalese education, colonial school uniforms, Dalit histories and caste in India, Indigenous knowledge and textile production, maps, counter-narratives, resistance and the politics of who gets to define knowledge as property. It is lavishly illustrated throughout, with archival material, artworks, maps, typography and documentary images integrated into the arguments rather than functioning as decoration.
