Description of 'Le loup-garou' by Boris Vian (French)

A werewolf story, technically.

In Vian’s hands, the transformation ain't no fangs and moonlight, it's about how the wolf wanders into a polite society. Vian rarely writes his creatures in tropes, instead they're they’re tender, confused, sometimes ridiculous. The violence, when it arrives, feels almost embarrassed by itself.

These stories move between surreal humour and quiet menace, written with that offhand elegance Vian does so well — playful on the surface, structurally sharp underneath.

A reality Vian built that's nudged half a degree off-centre.
