Selected and linked by Stanley Hendricks, it borrows the structure of The Prophet: a wandering speaker answers questions from a gathered community, allowing prose poems, parables and aphorisms from across Gibran’s work to read as a continuous spiritual meditation.

Published decades after Gibran’s death, this is not an original work in the strict sense but a designed selection from his existing writings. Its appeal lies partly in the 1960s Hallmark production—ornate typography and Bill Greer’s theatrical black-and-white drawings—and partly in Gibran’s peculiar position between poetry, mysticism and popular philosophy. Best for readers who enjoy devotional prose but prefer it lush, melancholy and faintly strange rather than clinically therapeutic.
