Published in 1977 and forgotten for decades, even the story inside has a mystique like something smuggled. 

Artists, writers, thinkers begin to disappear. Turns out they're rounded up by an unnamed collective referred to only as “They.” The repression is somewhat bureaucratic as culture is thinned out not with administrative efficiency.

Dick writes in cool, clipped fragments making for a slow suffocation of language and imagination.

Great book. Quick read, but great.
