'Cats' by Norman Lindsay

Norman Lindsay’s cats are not decorative pets so much as sly little presences.
These felines are theatrical, sensuous, self-possessed and faintly demonic in the way only cats and minor gods can be. This collection gathers Lindsay’s drawings and observations around the animal that suited him perhaps too perfectly — elegant, perverse, independent, amused by human seriousness.
Best known for The Magic Pudding and his long, controversial career as an artist, illustrator and writer, Lindsay brought to cats the same qualities that run through much of his work: line, mischief, sensuality and a slightly wicked intelligence. A charming but distinctly odd little volume, and very much not just a cat book in the gift-shop sense. More like: the cat as familiar, muse and accomplice.
