'Colony' by Annika Norlin

A woman retreats from ordinary life and becomes drawn into a remote forest commune, where the promise of peace, simplicity and ecological attention begins to blur between village, cult, refuge, family, experiment.
It looks like a novel about escape, but it is sharper as a book about belonging: who gets to leave the world, who gets followed by it, and what kinds of violence hide inside gentleness. There’s an obvious appeal here for readers into literary dystopia, eco-fiction, commune novels, climate unease, Scandinavian fiction, and slightly feral “what if society but wetter and more suspicious” narratives.
Good for fans of Olga Ravn, Samanta Schweblin, Jenny Hval, Max Porter, Sarah Hall, or anyone who likes their pastoral fiction with a faint smell of rot under the moss.
First published in Swedish as Stacken in 2023. First English edition published by Scribe in 2025, translated by Alice E. Olsson. Trade paperback. Very good used condition with light handling wear only.
