'Lost Lake' by Bella Li

Part poetry collection, part artist's book, part archival collage, Lost Lake is one of the more distinctive works to emerge from Australian experimental poetry in the last decade.
Bella Li constructs the book from fragments, images, found materials and lyrical sequences that drift between memory, geography and dream logic. Rather than presenting a single narrative, the work accumulates meaning through juxtaposition, creating a reading experience that feels closer to wandering through a gallery or a forgotten archive than following a conventional collection of poems.
The physical design is integral to the work itself. Images, colour-coded sections, visual interruptions and carefully constructed page layouts become part of the poetry's meaning, exploring questions of place, migration, absence, identity and reconstruction. The result is a book that rewards slow reading and repeated returns, sitting comfortably alongside contemporary hybrid writers such as Anne Carson, Theresa Hak Kyung Cha and Bhanu Kapil while retaining a distinctly Australian sensibility.
Paperback original edition, Vagabond Press 2018. Very good condition with clean pages, tight binding and minimal signs of handling.
